The Challenge
In 2004 the Organising Committee for the Athens Olympic Games selected Polichromo as their lead partner for both the “Look of the City” and the “Look of the Games” sections of the Graphics Production Project. Polichromo are the leading digital printing and installation company in Greece and they approached Gardners as a partner and as a formal contingency once the full scale of the project was fully appreciated.
The requirement was for more than 100,000 square metres of graphic production and installation on a range of substrates including Banner Grade PVC , Mesh, Polypropylene and Self-adhesive Vinyl across a huge variety of artworks in a strict one month timeline.
The Solution
Gardners used the full extent of their significant production firepower to support Polichromo across the range of the product requirement and ensured colour consistency across myriad different artworks and multiple digital printing processes and techniques. In the UK Gardners mirrored an “Emergency Team” that had been set up by Polichromo which was on standby 24/7 throughout the course of the Games to ensure that any replacement panels required as a result of damage post installation were available and installed within a maximum of 24 hours.
The Results
The success of the 2004 Olympic Games is now a matter of record. Polichromo received a letter of commendation for the excellent service that they provided to the Organising Committee, Gardners were proud to support them. The real results can be seen in the gallery alongside this case study.
